Kaethe Butcher
When people look at my artwork, I want their perception to reflect their own feelings; to summon nostalgia or leave them hopeful for the future.
Kaethe Butcher is a German artist from Leipzig. After completing her BA in Fashion Design in Berlin and an MA in Illustration at UAL in London, she remained in the city and now works as a freelance illustrator.
Inspired by Art Nouveau and the seductive works of Egon Schiele, women and their relationships with each other increasingly become the subject of Kaethe's work. She mainly uses graphite pencils for her signature style, and its erotic, provocative, and passionate lines. Her depictions of sexuality, intimacy and femininity evoke strength and fearlessness, though with an air of vulnerability that leaves the viewer considering the balance between the two.
